Youtube video timing increased to 15 minutes

July 30, 2010 Leave a comment

If you’ve been sitting on a mini epic rather than uploading it to YouTube because of their 10 minute clip limit, you’ll be pleased to hear that from today you’ll be able to upload videos of up to 15 minutes in length.
“Without question, the number one requested feature by our creators is to upload videos longer than 10 minutes. We’ve heard you, and today we’re pleased to announce that we’ve increased the upload limit to 15 minutes,” reads the YouTube blog.
Clips upwards of 10 minutes were once the reserve only of those with a premium YouTube account, but improvements behind the scenes, not to mention the success of YouTube’s Content ID copyright protection system, which has led to increased cash flow from music labels and Hollywood, have made the upload increase possible.
To celebrate the new feature, YouTube will be running a competition inspired by pop-artist Andy Warhol, who famously proclaimed that everyone would get their fifteen minutes of fame at one point in their lives. Users who upload 15 minute clips with the tag “yt15minutes” may be put under the spotlight as a featured video on the homepage.

Symbian Walkietooth

Walkietooth is a amazing newly developed application for Symbian mobile phones. Walkietooth is totally free application. The main objective of this application is  communication between two smart-phones. The objective is to ape the communication between two walkie-talkies. It is available only forSymbian s60 5th edition phones. The eye-catcher here is that it is fully compatible with the old Symbian versions as well. In addition to this, there is also a volume controller (you can increase or decrease volume according to your comfort) and there’s also a proper guide window while using the application. The application is free to download. it is available only for Symbian s60 edition mobile phones. This means that customers using Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97, Noikia N97 mini etc. can make use of full services of this software application.  This application uses bluetooth of mobile phones to makes calls. Just like bluetooth connects two devices, the walkietooth also connects the two devices, but for vocal communication. I think it is great application.

Download link to this application is not a developer’s link, however you can use it to download this application.

Blogging With Photos

nikkormatcamera.jpg
Sometimes a picture is truly worth a thousand words. If you prefer showing off your photography or art skills rather than your words, you can always make a photoblog.

A photoblog is a type of blog that gets regularly updated with photos, though it’s not the only content it can have. Offer a bit of poetry to go with the breathtaking mountain view you took on a vacation or explain what it means to you. Chronicle an event through a series of

photographs and make your readers feel like they were there. Or simply share those cute cat pictures to everyone. Photoblogging platforms have a way of building communities. You can find enthusiasts who share your interests, comment on other people’s photographs and share tips.

Photoblogging services offer a wide range of features. Look at how they handle uploads and hosting. It’ll be much easier if they can host the photos on the site instead of having to look for a separate hosting service. If you sign up for free check out how many uploads you can make for a day and how the galleries are managed. Does it automatically generate thumbnails and how easy is it to put text to go with the photograph?

A few photoblogging sites like TextAmerica only allow comments from registered users; otherwise it’s open for everyone. Be aware that if you’re going to post photographs online it’s easy for others to get and claim them. Take that into consideration before posting – you’d never know where they might end up. Try watermarking the images to discourage them. Other than that photoblogging is a quick and fun way to be creative. So get that camera and start that photoblog today!

Hidden Tips & Tricks of VLC Player

July 30, 2010 Leave a comment

VLC is the most popular media player because it plays everything of almost every format .But VLC can do a lot of other things as well as which normal user do not know about this. Check ur knowledge how many of these listed below you knew, and how many you did not.
1.) Rip DVDs:  VLC includes a basic DVD ripper. You probably would never use it when there are better DVD rippers available, but it helps to know that you can in fact, get a decent quality DVD rip with VLC. To rip a movie follow these steps: Go to the Media menu and choose Convert/Save. Click on the Disc tab.

 * Here you can adjust the Starting Position and rip only specific titles or chapters.
* Enter file name making sure to end with .MPG, and start ripping.
* Click Save.
* Its Done.

2.)  Record videos: With the new VLC, you can record videos during playback. The record button is hidden by default. To see it, click on View>Advanced Control. The record button will now appear. Clicking on the button while playing a movie or video will start recording. Clicking again will stop recording.

3.) Play RAR files: Do you know VLC can play videos zipped inside RAR files? They play like normal video files and you can even use the seek bar. If the RAR file is split into several files, no problem. Just load the first part (.part001.rar ) and it will automatically take the rest of the parts and play the whole file.

4.)  Play in ASCII mode: VLC media player has an amusing ability, to playback movies in ASCII art. To enable ASCII mode, open VLC media player and click on Tools>Preferences. Open the section “Video” section and under “Output” select “Color ASCII art video output” from the drop down menu. Save it. Now play any video file to enjoy the ASCII art.

 5.) Listen to online radio: VLC includes hundreds of Shoutcast radio stations. You just need to enable it through Media>Services Discovery>Shoutcast radio listings. Now, open the Playlist and browse through the stations.

6.) Convert Audio and Video formats: In VLC you can convert video and audio files from one format to another. Several different formats are supported like MP4, WMV, AVI, OGG, MP3 etc. To access the converter:

* Go to Media>Convert/Save.
* Load the file you want to convert using the Add button and click Convert.
* Now choose the output format and output file location.

7.) Download YouTube and other online videos: First grab the URL of the YouTube video page. Now click on Media>Open Network stream. Paste the URL and click Play.

Once VLC starts streaming the video, click Tools>Codec Information and at the bottom of the window you will see a Location box. Copy the URL and paste it on your browser’s address bar. The browser will now download the file which you can save it to your hard disk. Alternatively, you can record the video.
